A Story of Success!
The Trail Hike Event will be the first of a series in a program of Outdoor Education Adventures by Cedar Lakes Conservation Foundation (CLCF). It is being planned by those organizations which worked collaboratively to preserve properties surrounding sections of the Ice Age Trail and Camp Silverbrook. They include: West Bend Mutual Insurance Company, CLCF, Girl Scouts of Wisconsin, Southeast; and the Ice Age Trail Foundation.
Portions of the Ice Age Trail are now connected following the preservation of the Lockman property in September of 2006. Now, after additional negotiating, planning and marking, the trail is ready for an official unveiling. Land preserved by CLCF and West Bend Mutual Insurance Company added just under 40 acres to stretch the trail to a new access parking lot along Paradise Drive. Successful efforts between the Ice Age Trail Foundation and Camp Silverbrook have now officially completed the long-term goal of all involved.
New signs designate a trail that now meanders along the western edge of Camp Silverbrook. Magnificent views of Lucas Lake are framed by hardwoods and gentle slopes for the enjoyment of hikers. Successful land preservation and extended trails serve to strengthen a boundary agreementbetween the City and Town of West Bend. This was designed to keep areas of environmental significance out of harm’s way. Generations to come will forever have access to a trail that celebrates Wisconsin’s natural treasures.
Activities of CLCF continue to make significant contributions to the preservation and protection of fragile wetlands, woodlands, and natural areas in Washington County, one of the most rapidly developing areas in the State. Approximately 2500 acres of pristine land has been permanently protected, creating a lasting legacy of natural beauty that will remain undeveloped for the benefit of present and future generations.
None of this work would be possible without charitable contributions from individuals and organizations, along with endless hours of volunteer work by those who share CLCF’s vision.
